Dana's Oatmeal Cake

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs well beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking soda
Topping
-------------------
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 cup coconut
1 cup nuts chopped (pecans)
1 tsp vanilla
Directions
1) Pour boiling water over oats and let stand until cool
2) Cream shortening with sugars and eggs until fluffy
3) Add oats and water mixture
4) Sift flour with other dry ingredients and blend into existing mixture
5) Pour into greased and lightly floured 13 x 9 x 2 pan
6) Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes
7) Spread topping on baked cake as soon as it comes from oven
Topping
1) Melt butter and add sugar
2) Add remaining ingredients and spread over cake
