Fruit Cocktail Cake

1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 can fruit cocktail (13 oz)
2 cups flour
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Mix and put in 9x13 cake pan (greased and floured)
On top of batter sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar and nuts if desired
Bake at 325 degrees for 35-40 minutes
In saucepan boil together while stirring....
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup canned milk
1/2 cup butter
Pour over warm cake and serve with whip cream or ice cream
